Conference Description:

Are you a Bachelor or Master student of philosophy looking to gain experience presenting your work in an academic environment? Apply now to present at our student conference on October 29 and 30, 2026, at the University of Duisburg-Essen!

Why this conference? We want to create a space for (future) philosophers from marginalized groups to present their work and exchange ideas. In addition to two guest presentations by Dr. Sophie Kikkert (LMU) and Dr. Maren Behrensen (University of Twente) on the topic of the conference, ten students will have the chance to give a 20-minute lecture (in German or English) followed by a Q&A session. The content of your talk should be connected to social philosophy. There are no restrictions regarding the specific subject. Whether you want to talk about a theoretical or a practical topic – everything is welcome! Maybe you have a term paper you are proud of or a philosophy of language topic you are passionate about? We would be happy if you share your ideas with us!

Application:

Until May 31, 2026, you can use this link (https://forms.gle/LqrLBjZfgWGxYLWE9) to fill in all necessary personal information including whether you belong to a marginalized group (e.g., as a woman and/or trans person, POC, first-generation graduate, person with a disability or chronic illness, member of the LGBTQIA+ community, etc.), and also to upload a PDF describing what your talk will be about incl. your theses and your argumentation (approx. 500-800 words).

If you have any questions, please email us at youngmindsconference@gmail.com. We look forward to your application!

Funding:

The conference is organized by students from the University of Duisburg-Essen in collaboration with the Young Minds Philosophy e.V., and financially supported by, among others, the Qualitätsverbesserungskommission (quality improvement commission) of the Faculty of Humanities and the Philosophy Department of the University of Duisburg-Essen, DGPhil, and SW*IP Germany e.V. Therefore, we are able to provide financial support to the speakers to contribute to travel and rooming expenses. If you have any questions, please email us at youngmindsconference@gmail.com.
