The De Gruyter Award, originally established by Ontos Verlag as the “Ontos Award” and now sponsored by De Gruyter, is granted for an outstanding work in the field of analytic philosophy of mind or ontology/metaphysics.
Procedures
The prize consists of €2,000 and the coverage of costs for an open-access publication of the e-book. Eligible works must be at least 150 pages in length (language: German or English), must not have been published yet, and must meet the following requirements.
- Nominees must have earned an academic degree from a university where German is an official university language, or be affiliated with such a university at the time of nomination or application.
- Works with a primarily historical focus may also be submitted, provided they meet analytic standards and have a clearly recognizable systematic epistemic value.
- Since 2018, accepting the Wolfgang Stegmüller Award precludes accepting the De Gruyter Award for the same work.
- Proposals must be sent to the GAP, including a justification of no more than 1,000 words and the candidate’s curriculum vitae.
- Self-nominations are permitted.
- Works are to be submitted in electronic form (PDF).
- Nominees must include a three- to four-page summary.
- The submission deadline is January 31 of the year in which the GAP Congress takes place.
The work will subsequently be published in the series “Philosophische Analyse / Philosophical Analysis” by De Gruyter.
