The Presidents and Managing Director would like to draw the attention of GAP members to the following matters, which seem noteworthy to us in the spirit of GAP’s statutory goal of commitment to academic freedom:
- The EU Commission is working on establishing a fully integrated European Research Area, at the heart of which is to be “The Fifth Freedom: Freedom of Knowledge,” meaning the free mobility for researchers, Open Access, and similar issues. All researchers within the EU are invited to anonymously submit their experiences with barriers in this area, as well as their ideas for shaping this “Fifth Freedom,” via this portal.
- With the aim of making the publication culture in academic philosophy more open, Malte Dreyer, Eric Eggert, Nicola Mößner, and Elio Pellin have published a position paper, which can be viewed and signed here on the pages of the Specialized Information Service for Philosophy.
- The Network for Sustainable Academia has published a statement on the latest draft bill for the reform of the WissZeitVG.
