Workshop Description:

This workshop explores cognition, language and feeling through the lenses of ecological psychology and phenomenology. Central themes of investigation include:

-the situatedness of action and cognition

-the affective disclosure of situations

-the evolution and use of language

The workshop invites inquiry into questions such as: How do we come to know and inhabit places? What constitutes a situation? What makes an environment feel safe, threatening, or enabling? and other related themes. We will explore how our embeddedness shapes both perception and speech, and how place constitutes our knowledge of self and others.

The workshop will take place over two days, on February 19-20, 2026, and is open to scholars and students from all disciplines. The workshop is an in-person event but talks (without discussions) will be streamed when permitted. Attendance is free but registration is required.
