Specialized Information Service

GAP members have extensive opportunities via the Specialized Information Service (“Fachinformationsdienst” or “FID”) for Philosophy to access full-text content in hundreds of academic journals and thousands of e-books that usually require a fee, as well as to use subject-specific research tools, all free of charge.

What is a Specialized Information Service (“Fachinformationsdienst” or “FID”)?

Specialized Information Services are research-supporting information infrastructures tailored to the specific needs of individual academic disciplines. They succeed the Special Subject Collections (Sondersammelgebiete) and emphasize digital transformation processes in science and academia. Further information can be found here.

How do I get access to the full texts?

Simply register for free in the portal. In your profile, you will then have the option to enter the token sent to you by the GAP to unlock the premium features.

What does the Specialized Information Service offer?

  1. Research. We offer extensive research capabilities, including the Philosopher’s Index, the Philosophy Documentation Center, PhilArchive, JSTOR, and various union catalogs. The data sources are constantly being expanded.
  2. Full texts. You can find full-text access to over 500 journals from the Philosopher’s Index and the Philosophy Documentation Center. Additionally, you will find over 2,000 e-books from publishers such as Brill, Schöningh, Fink, mentis, and Alber.
  3. Journal Hosting. We support you in setting up (or migrating) an open-access journal. You can find an overview of our service here. We already host the Philosophische Symposien of the DFG.
  4. Research data. We connect you with experts within the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) e. V., organize workshops, and ensure the visibility of research data in library indexing systems.

Many more services are in the works. Please feel free to see whether the research tools and our current full-text and journal offering are helpful for your research. We also greatly appreciate your feedback!
